TRIBE v2 Pre-Analysis
Upload your study material

Before you put on the band, tell StudyTwin what you are about to study. Upload a PDF, paste a URL, or drop in your notes. TRIBE v2 will analyse which brain circuits your material demands and personalise your session parameters before calibration begins.

This step takes 5-10 seconds on our GPU backend. You can skip it and use default parameters.
1
ESP32 Calibration
Power the ESP32-WROOM

Connect the 3.7V Li-Po battery. Press and hold the button for 2 seconds. The SSD1306 OLED display lights up showing "STUDYTWIN" followed by a WiFi handshake animation. The ESP32 initialises all three sensor channels — MAX30102 (I2C), GSR (ADC GPIO34), and the OLED display.

On first use, pair WiFi credentials once using the setup tool. Subsequent boots auto-connect in under 3 seconds.
2
Baselining
60-second resting calibration

Wear the band on your non-dominant wrist. Attach finger electrode clips (index and middle finger). Sit still and relax for 60 seconds. StudyTwin measures your personal resting baseline for both HRV (RMSSD) and GSR — making every subsequent reading relative to your biology, not a population average.

The OLED displays a progress bar during calibration. When it shows READY, your baseline is locked for this session.
3
Sync
Firebase data-stream handshake

Open the StudyTwin dashboard in Chrome. The ESP32 begins HTTP POST-ing JSON payloads of all sensor readings to Firebase Realtime Database. The browser subscribes via onSnapshot() — mean propagation latency is 154ms. Within seconds, live readings appear and the 3D Neural Twin comes to life.

Allow camera access when prompted for MediaPipe blink detection. Without camera, GSR + HRV still deliver a validated score at 85% of full accuracy.
Common questions

Good questions.

What is TRIBE v2 and why does it matter?

TRIBE v2 is Meta's brain-predictive AI, trained on fMRI data from 720 subjects. It predicts which brain circuits your specific study material will demand — before you start studying. This means StudyTwin can set your overload thresholds and session duration based on actual content difficulty, not just population averages. A lecture on control systems sets different parameters than a lecture on history.

Do I have to wear it the whole session?

Yes — StudyTwin reads your state continuously. If you remove the band mid-session, the dashboard shows your last known state until reconnection.

Will it work without camera access?

Yes. Blink rate contributes 15% to your score. Without it, GSR and HRV together give a validated reading at 85% of full accuracy.

How long does the battery last?

4-6 hours on a full charge (3.7V Li-Po). A standard study day is easily covered. Charges fully in under an hour via USB-C.

What if the readings seem wrong?

The most common cause is poor electrode contact. Ensure finger clips are snug but not tight. Re-calibrating the 60-second baseline fixes most issues.

Can two people share the same band?

Yes — each person signs into their own Firebase account and runs calibration. All baselines and history are stored separately per user.
